August Meeting

Standard

In case you missed today’s meeting, we discussed  writing our very own suspense novel to appease our need for a good page turner- which our “choose your own adventure” picks sort of failed to deliver.

Kristin read “The Girls”, which she decided “accurately depicted the psyche of young and impressional ladies and how they could be influenced into joining cults”. What it lacked was the page-turning excitment that she had hoped for.  (I recommended she tries Mills, Jeannie. Six Years with God: Life Inside Reverend Jim Jones’s Peoples Temple.)

My month’s read was “In a Dark, Dark Wood”. A Story about a “hen” (bachelorette) party, gone murderously wrong. Although I really enjoyed this novel, I was hoping for more suspense vs. a “who done it?” type story. Come to find out…Reese Witherspoon is making it into a movie (surprised? …..yeah, me neither..)

Andrea started a book on parenting that discusses leaving your ego at the door, and letting your children become their own individual selves, instead of influencing them into becoming who you think  they should be.

Lara’s book, “Rumors” sounded like a fun summer read! It was a novel about a Nantucket community, where the players had many secrets to hide….and to share….. with each other, willingly, or not!

For the next round, we thought it would be fun to “half-read” a thriller, and then meet to speculate about the story’s resolution. So here’s the plan : Since we have several birthdays in the next month: Liz, Leslie, and Liz’s Husband, Tasso, we thought it would be fun to read half of the book and then speculate on how it ends, while having some celebratory drinks and food. For anyone who is interested in meeting up for this event, we are going to go out in (Laguna Beach, possibly?) on Saturday, September 17th

The book is “All the Missing Girls” by Megan Miranda.

it’s a “spellbinding, psychological, nail-biting, breathtaking story about the disappearance of two young women= a decade apart- told in reverse…..

S. Summary : It’s been ten years since Nicolette Farrell left her rural hometown after her best friend, Corinne, disappeared from Cooley Ridge without a trace. Back again to tie up loose ends and care for herailing father, Nic is soon plunged into a shocking drama that reawakens Corinne’s case and breaks open old wounds long since stitched.

Told backwards- Day 15 to Day 1- from the time Annaleise goes missing, Nic works to unravel the truth about her younger neighbor’s disappearance, revealing shocking truths about her friends, her family, and what REALLY happened to Corinne that night ten years ago

READ ONLY TO DAY 9 if you’d like to discuss it on September 17th !!!

If you choose not to/can not make the September event, please don’t fret! We will meet for a girl’s day on October 16th to officially discuss the book (and it’s ending) – 11:00 am at Andrea’s new home in Dana Point! We will do a potluck style event (details to come)

looking forward to the fall!
