A Hologram for the King: Brunch & Review

Whelp, we forgot to vote on the book, but I’m going to guesstimate, based on everyone’s conversation and comments that we would probably give A Hologram for the King an “I needed at least 4 out a531ba160af86278077e9c706051f2abof 5 glasses of wine to get through this book.” We all appreciated the writing style and it stirred up a lot of interesting conversation regarding some of our protagonist’s insightful moments, but the unanimous result of each hotly discussed passage was “…but then nothing happened!” We are VERY curious to see how this book translates to film… we’ll see this fall!

Next Book club is scheduled for Sunday June 28, 2015 and while there seemed to be a small party lobbying for a trip to the Korean Nudist Spa, we will be brunching at Carmelitas in Rancho Santa Margarita at 11:00 am!

Address: Carmelitas at Mercado Del Lago

31441 Santa Margarita Pkwy.

Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688

(Park your car near the Starbucks/Golden Spoon/Cigar Lounge, then walk down the steps into the plaza… Carmelitas will be towards the lake on your right!)

Agreeing that we all wanted something with a bit more action this time around, we did manage to randomly select a new title… The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair by Joel Dicker ….Leslie & Kristen’s suggestion!

Other titles in the running were:

  • The Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll
  • Drinking Closer to Home by Jessica Anya Blau
  • All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

We’re going to try a democratic selection process for the next meeting so everyone who is bringing a title, make sure you have a good summary (preferably read with some DRAMATIC flair) to sway your fellow bookies…. I hear Andrea is bringing a Power Point presentation, so heads up! 😉 This time we’re going to be choosing a THRILLER! Until next time, gals, happy reading!
